our mission

Delivering highly safe and usable Artificial Intelligence for water utilities to improve human life.

Team
By being the class leader in digital water network modelling and AI-assisted decision making, we are working to be the first company in the world to technically implement a fully autonomous water network.
Foresight UI

Leading from the front on digital water

We are the builders of Foresight - a platform that helps utilities connect all their network data sources so that AI can unlock efficiencies in water management that have been historically unattainable.

Within Foresight, we have a suite of best-in-class, AI-enabled asset management tools for various use cases including leakage prediction, technician management, burst modelling, and continuous monitoring of critical mains.

Deep expertise

We're a deep-tech company that has nearly a decade of experience with substantial, in-house expertise in water systems engineering, electronics, data science, machine learning, and software design.

We safely and powerfully deliver AI into water companies maximising productivity, enhancing information flow, and giving the experts within water companies more time to focus on the strategic decisions that deliver best customer service.

Expertise
Our vision is to make global society more water resilient.

Our story

2017

Our founder, Suhayl Zulfiquar sets out to work on one of the biggest problems our global society faces: water scarcity. He begins working on the idea of a smart pipe; a concept that would eventually evolve into Ground Truth.

2018

Datatecnics is one of seven companies out of 80 applicants selected onto United Utilities’ (UU) Inaugural Innovation Lab. The idea of the smart pipe evolves into a sensor-enabled, AI-driven digital twin to monitor and model pipe behaviour and integrity more accurately than ever before. We name it ‘Ground Truth’.

In the same year, we launch V1 of Ground Truth and secure a £570k grant from Innovate UK.

2019

Following the success of the Innovation Lab, we win our first contract with UU to deploy Ground Truth.

In the same year, we establish a research partnership with The University of Sheffield’s world-leading ‘Pennine Water Group’ to build cutting-edge prediction models for pipe failure using the multi-parameter sensors collected from Ground Truth.

2020

Gaining momentum, Datatecnics is chosen as one of 13 out of 215 applicants for the coveted Imagine H2O Accelerator.   We begin the deployment of Ground Truth sensors to UU mains.

2021

We launch our Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) with The University of Exeter’s Centre for Water Systems and set up a dedicated lab to run first-of-a-kind experiments on pipe deterioration under range of loading conditions.

The work at Exeter assists Datatecnics in making its class-leading algorithms available to parts of a water network even where we don’t deploy dedicated sensors, and the ‘Foresight’ platform is born with an ecosystem of tools for a range of asset health applications.

2022

We raise a seed round of £1.1M of investment from Vala Capital, InnovateUK and the European Commission.

2023

We earn a spot on Impact X’s Venture Studio, a competitive accelerator by Impact X, Microsoft, and Spring.

Catalysed by UU’s CEO challenge, we expand our tool stack by developing and launching ‘Leak Response’.

2024

Gaining global recognition, Datatecnics is selected for the inaugural CRH Ventures’ Accelerator for Water Solutions.

2025

Expanding our distribution, we establish a strategic partnership with Network Plus, one of the largest utility and infrastructure service provides in the UK, and win South Staffs and South West Water as customers.

By now, the team has grown into 12 experts in Water Systems Modelling, Engineering, Product Development and more, with a strong and expanding customer base.
